I've been working my ass off the last few days to get this baby finished, but it's done ! You can see the first concept of it here:[link]
It's a cd and vinyl cover for Belgian band Codasync. They are great friends of mine and make crazy instrumental rock music. Especially live they are a rollercoaster. Their new kickass album will be released in december, also online. Check out their myspace: [link]
The large and complex drawing was made on two A3 sheets. It represents an endless machine ( you can connect the bottom with the top again ). On the cover it's flipped horizontally. It will appear as a large poster in an alternate version (which will be for sale) and in the future it will be animated as well for their live shows. The band logo was designed by them.
Symbollically it stands for chaos. Because their music is complicated and chaotic. The endlessness means their music goes on and on and the machine refers to their enormous productivity and energy.
They are very satisfied with the result. At first I wasn't sure ( because an artist sees his own mistakes ), but as a whole, and certainly on vinyl, it totally works.
I feel I'm onto something. Something new. Big drawings. Complex drawings. More of these and with different techniques and colours. Machines, but also houses, robots, toys, imaginary worlds, ...
be sure to check out my blog too, for it features extras I don't put on dA from time to time. [link]
I gave my cat a pen and came back the next morning to be amazed by this drawing she made. nah just kidding, I don't have drawing cat, but it would be cool.
I drew it on 2 A3 sheets vertical mode. It's pretty big and hella detailed as you can see. I looked at some old machines on google images to let me get inspired and then I basically improvised the whole thing, without sketching. I only had to keep in mind to leave some space for the titles. I started at the left on top and worked down from there, but basically let the drawing grow organically. Probably one of the biggest drawings on paper I've ever done. Wanna do it more now
